An email from a Picnic Trend customer

Dear Picnic Trend,

A few weeks ago, my co-worker arrived at work with a brand new lunch tote that looks far more modern and streamlined than my well-loved L.L. Bean lunch cooler. When I asked her where she got it, she told me that it had been a Christmas gift from her mother, who bought it for her on www.picnictrend.com. Naturally, I immediately logged on to the website, and found a similar item, but had trouble finding the exact lunch bag that she had. The lunch tote she has is made of a black, white, and red patterned neoprene, with large circular plastic handles. When she showed me the bag, it was big enough to hold her lunch sandwich, a few assorted snacks, and even her Sigg water bottle.

Can you help me locate this item? She was kind enough to let me take a photo of her lunch tote in action, which I’m attaching to this email.

While I was browsing the site, I noticed the Avalanche Wheeled Picnic Cooler, which I immediately bought to use on Valentine’s Day even though I hadn’t yet found the lunch tote that I was originally searching for!

The Avalanche Wheeled Picnic Cooler was perfect for what I had in mind – especially because my boyfriend and I had to celebrate Valentine’s Day in the beginning of February, when it was 80 degrees here in Southern California. I had made Mississippi Mud cupcakes with meringue frosting, and the Avalanche kept the sweets (and the milk that I brought along to accompany them, of course) nice and cool despite the fact that we went on a long, two-hour walk with the cooler to get to our “secret spot” in Malibu! I found that the dessert meal fit almost perfectly in the Avalanche, and even though our mini-hike jostled the cupcakes a little, they were delicious even with the slightly mashed frosting.

So thanks, Picnic Trend, for helping me surprise my boyfriend with a great Valentine’s Day! And if you have a chance to research that neoprene lunch tote, I’d appreciate the info.

Thanks again,

A Satisfied Picnic Trend Customer.

Dear Satisfied Picnic Trend Customer,

We here at Picnic Trend love hearing how our products have been put to good use. We’ve never thought about hiking with the Avalanche stuffed full of cupcakes, but it sounds like a great Valentine’s Day idea!

The lunch tote you are referring to is our Milano Prints Lunch Tote from Picnic Time’s Metro Collection. The Milano Lunch Tote is available in solid colors as well as patterns for $20.99. The pattern your co-worker has is called “Abacus Black” and it also comes in City Lime, Blue Marbles, and Pink Geo. These are great little totes that can be used for almost anything, not just lunch!

If you like the Milano Lunch Tote, we also carry two other very similar items – the Barbera Tote from the Metro Collection safely holds and carries one bottle of one, while the Brunello Tote holds two. Both of the Wine Totes come with a complimentary waiter-style stainless steel corkscrew.

Thanks for writing in!

Keep the stories coming,

Product Review: The Canterbury Picnic Basket

Buying online can sometimes be quite daunting due to the fact that you can’t touch or feel an item before you buy it. At Picnic Trend, we understand this issue and we have dedicated our efforts to making the decision to buy a picnic product as easy as possible.

The Product Reviews in our blog will be based upon our personal use of the picnic items, as well as feedback we have received from actual customers that have purchased and used the products.

Our first Product Review will cover the elegant Picnic Time Canterbury Picnic Basket with service for two.

Features: The Canterbury Picnic Basket is the elite of elite picnic baskets. With full settings for two, a fleece blanket, food containers, a flask, and much more, the Canterbury really does have everything you need for the perfect picnic.

Design: The design of the willow basket is nicely constructed. The intuitive arrangement of the included features allows you room to fit the most critical part of your picnic outing…the food! One thing to keep in mind with the Canterbury is that the carrying handle is on the front of the basket, so plan your packing appropriately so the contents don’t shift too much when you carry the basket.

Practicality: In terms of having what you need for a picnic, the Canterbury satisfies every possible need. The only caveat to having every picnic utensil imaginable is that basket can get a bit heavy when fully packed. The great thing about the Canterbury though, is you can pick and choose what items to take with you on each picnic trip!

Summary: The Canterbury Picnic Basket is perfect for both the elite picnickers and casual picnickers alike. The large number of great items included with the basket makes it well worth the price tag.

Pros: The expansive features allow you to pick and choose what items to take on any type of picnic getaway. The quality and craftsmanship of the basket is wonderful. All in all, the Canterbury will never leave you wanting more.

Cons: When fully packed up, the Canterbury can get a bit heavy, so don’t plan any hikes prior to a picnic with this basket.

How To: A Romantic (and cheap!) Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day doesn't have to be about crowded restaurants and expensive prixe fixe menus. It's important to remember what you're supposed to be celebrating -- spending time with the person you love the most. Times are tough and there are lots of people trying to figure out how they can deliver a cheap Valentine's day that doesn't feel cheap. We've got the solution -- try a picnic!
Picnicing is a great activity on a day with the family, but it can also provide a romantic, intimate, and memorable time with your Valentine. Here are a few ideas on how you can create a great (and cheap!) Valentine's Day this year:
  • Find a quiet, secluded location where you and your Valentine can be alone and enjoy spending time with eachother. Places to try can include beaches, parks, campgrounds, or pretty much anywhere with open space.
  • Bring your own refreshments. Pick up a bottle of wine and bring it with you, it'll help make your picnic more romantic. (Wine Accessories from Picnic Trend)
  • Food. What would a picnic be without food? Consider bread, cheese, sandwich meats, sliced fruit. Pack them in an insulated cooler so they stay fresh.
  • Dessert! Some may have lumped this into the 'Food' category, but great desserts can take your picnic to the next level, so they deserve some extra attention. Think romantic: chocolate dipped fruits or personalize some home made brownies with a special message for your Valentine.
  • Bring a blanket. Don't ruin your romantic Valentine's Day picnic by forgetting to bring a picnic blanket. Good blankets typically have a waterproof side that keeps the blanket dry, and a soft side to keep you comfortable.
Hopefully that's enough to get you started thinking about how to create a special day with the one you love this Valentine's Day. Have your own ideas? Let us know in the comments!
